First day back to work. Hence the early, regular-timed entry.
I didn’t get much sleep last night. We put the baby in his bassinet and turned on a white noise machine which sounds like the ocean and has little lights which project stars on the ceiling. I listened to a Moby-Dick audiobook. Wife nursed baby. I fell asleep.
I woke up during one nursing session late into the night and couldn’t fall back asleep. I tossed and turned. Put a blanket on. Took a blanket off. Nothing worked. I went out into the living room to try and sleep. That didn’t work, either. The cats meowed, wagged their tales, and wrestled. I heard the baby crying from the living room. I went back into the bedroom. Wife was nursing baby again. “I couldn’t sleep,” I said, and laid back down in bed. I was still having trouble relaxing and as soon as it seemed I was settled in and it was growing dark, I heard my alarm going off. Time for work.
I put the coffee on, took a hot shower, and got dressed. I poured the hot coffee into my travel mug. The steam wafted up into the light coming through the window. It smelled and looked like a morning routine. I kissed wife and baby and left for work.
During my drive I realized I hadn’t brought a coat. It was cold. I turned the AC off and the heat on in the car. I would get a coat at lunch.
